General Information

Eligibility--Everyone must register with registermyathlete.com in order to participate and compete. For those who have already done a sport and have gotten a physical, just log in and add either ‘girls track’ or ‘boys track’ to your profile. If this is your first sport for the year, you will need to go to your doctor and get a sports physical. The paperwork with the doctor’s signatures on it can be uploaded to your profile on the 'register my athlete' page (this method is preferred) or give it to a secretary in the office.  Students can not have any F’s or I’s (incomplete). You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA on 2nd and 3rd quarter report cards in order to participate this spring.
We pay close attention to tardies and unexcused absences. If you are late to class or have missed a class the coaches will see this and it won’t go unnoticed. Remember you are a student first and then an athlete. Let’s keep schoolwork a top priority.  It is also a district policy that you attend all of your classes on the day of competition.

Fees--Participation fee is $40. Please pay this to Mrs. Goodwin at the business window or pay online before February 20. OR have your fee waiver filled out and turned in by February 10.

GEAR
--GOOD PROPER SHOES--Your season will be determined by the shoes you have to train in. This does not mean you have to buy the most expensive. Just start shopping now and have them bought in the next two weeks. DO NOT BUY Nike frees and other low-end Nikes. They look great and feel good on in the store, but they wear out fast and you WILL get shin splints.

PRACTICE GEAR– All athletes are asked to wear CV gear to practice.  This can be T-shirts and other gear from other sports.  We encourage CV-colored T-shirts and apparel while at practice. The gear order forms will have some inexpensive options for you to purchase.  While at practice and in the stadium boys and girls are required to wear a t-shirt or tank top that covers the stomachs.  If you are not wearing a shirt you will be asked to put one on.  We are preparing you for competition by always wearing a top, this also teaches respect and professionalism.  When we are at meets you can be disqualified by not wearing a top in the area of competition.

A team shirt and plain black shorts are strongly encouraged to buy, you can find these on the gear order form that will go out next week. These are to be worn over the uniform before competition on hot days. The T-shirt and shorts worn over the uniform protect the expensive uniform and also the irreplaceable body. You do not have to buy the black warm-up shorts from the fan cloth order form if you already own a pair. If you have a CV shirt that you can wear over the uniform that works too. The Coaches will ask you to put your T-shirts and shorts back on after your performance if you have not already done so.  On cold days, you are expected to be dressed warm in a few layers.  It is very important to keep your muscles warm to avoid injury.

Uniforms: Uniform jerseys will be provided for all of the athletes to wear with their own black shorts. Most participants are required to buy their own black spandex from the gear order form.  We will have more details on the gear order forms.  Gear order forms will be on a google form and the link will be sent out soon.  Fan Cloth order forms will also be sent out at this time.  Fan Cloth is where you can order any CV clothing/gear to wear to practice or meet days.  By ordering from Fan Cloth it helps raise money for the team.

Nutrition
-- The holidays are over and it’s a new year, let's focus on healthier eating. Up the fruits and vegetables, eat less processed and junk foods. We will be discussing this more as the season goes on.
Stay Hydrated! It’s cold out and we don’t think about drinking water as much but we need it more for our muscles. The cold can cause muscle cramps if your body is not properly hydrated. Carry a water bottle with you and keep hydrated throughout the day.

Pre-Season Conditioning-- January 16-February 20 The team will meet at the outdoor track Monday-Friday right after school. Please get to the track quickly for health screenings and once the screenings are finished team stretch and warm-up will begin. Come every day prepared for the cold weather. This means you bring: running tights or sweatpants, T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, jacket, hat, gloves, etc.  You will be notified via Remind if we are to meet inside on a very very bad weather day.

Official Team Practice
-- Feb. 20-May 20 Practice is mandatory and roll will be taken every day. If you have a school-excused absence you need to talk to us about missing practice beforehand, sign the attendance book, and email the cvhstrack14@gmail.com account. Please read the attached attendance policy.  Practice is every day from 3:00-5:00 and some days till 5:30 for those needing to specialize in their event. Some events go shorter and you are free to go once your event coach releases you from practice.  Come to practice with a positive attitude ready to work hard and perfect your craft in track and field.

Please do not text the coaches on Sundays and in the evenings when we are at home with our families if it can wait until the next day.  The coaches are discouraged from texting athletes one-on-one and therefore email is best or use the remind app which is 81010 @cvtf15 or @cvtf21 If you have any questions or concerns you can email us at cvhstrack14@gmail.com  In addition to texting athletes the coaches are not to follow or be friends with the athletes on social media.  So if they do not accept your friend request, it is not personal:)

For emergencies and deep concerns such as injuries, sickness, or inappropriate behavior don’t hesitate to call Coach Jessica Dabb 435-865-0878 or Coach Mariam Steffensen 435-238-0102

Attendance Policy

Practice Hours: practices will be held every day during the Track and field season starting at 3:00 pm. Attendance will be taken every day starting February 26.

Your Head Coach will inform you of your Daily/Weekly practices. Event coaches will be around to help assist you in your specific event practices, therefore both the event coach and the head coach need to be informed of your daily tasks that may interfere with your daily attendance or meet participation.

Communicate with YOUR Head and Event Coach DAILY!

Meet Participation: at Track & Field Meets you are required to conduct yourself respectfully and honorably as a representative of the Canyon View High School Track & Field Program, and of yourself. We Will NOT tolerate bad conduct such as disrespectful behavior to yourself, to others, and misuse or mistreatment of equipment and facilities (this applies to home and away meets).

Varsity Meets: in order for athletes to compete at a varsity level meet, they need to have achieved the requirements set by the Track & Field Program.

Excused Absence: student-athlete notifies the coach through email and signs the attendance book at least 24 hours before the day of absence. Acceptable excused absences are for academic purposes only; such as band/orchestra/choir performances, class competitions, regional performances, etc.

The student-athlete is unwell/sick and unable to do the day’s workout and is possibly contagious.

Unexcused Absence: student-athlete does not notify the coach of absence. We still strongly encourage you to talk to your event coach no matter what the reason may be! Unexcused absences include but are not limited to non-academic appointments, such as dental appointments, date proposals, hair appointments, etc.  An Excessive amount of unexcused absences (5) will result in ineligibility to participate in the Track & Field Program.

Consequence: The student-athlete becomes ineligible to compete in the next track meet.

Excused Tardy: student-athlete notifies coach of being late to practice due to academic purposes (please communicate with your teachers to get academic affairs taken care of around the hours of practice, such as during lunchtime and this is what FLEX is for), etc.

Unexcused Tardy: Student-athletes show up late to practice without notifying the coach in advance, nor has a signed note stating the reason for their tardiness.

Consequence: Excess amount of unexcused tardies(2+ per week) will be equivalent to an unexcused absence. Result: student-athlete becomes ineligible to compete in the next track meet.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Every absence and tardy, excused or unexcused, does affect meet participation. Excess absences and tardies may increase your risk of injury due to improper training throughout the week/season.

Please note that these policies are set for the health and benefit/concern of those participating in the program.

Integrity is everything. Be honest with yourself and others as you communicate your whereabouts and well-being with the coaches.
